Nissan showcases 7 ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’-inspired vehicles at the LA Auto Show
In honor of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Nissan partnered up with the beloved franchise to bring their fans seven Star Wars-themed concept vehicles. This fleet premiered at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
"We're back this year collaborating with Lucasfilm and the artists at Industrial Light & Magic to create these amazing concept vehicles across some of our best-selling models," said Jeremy Tucker, vice president, Marketing Communications & Media, Nissan North America, Inc. "These show vehicles were created for our fans, and will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show and shared across the country in regional auto shows over the next several months."
Star Wars: The Last Jedi themes were created for each vehicle and were developed by Lucas films designers who incorporated the expressive lines of some of Nissan's most popular models– Rogue, Rogue Sport, Altima, Maxima, and TITAN.
2018 Nissan Altima – Special Forces TIE Fighter
Used by the First Order's elite Special Forces pilots, the TIE Fighter is a strike fighter. This has been appropriately recreated using Nissan's best-selling sedan, the Altima. Featuring custom body enhancements that bring it in line with a member of the First Order's fleet, the vehicle's stand out feature has to be its cockpit window. It brings the multi-paned look of the Special Forces TIE fighter to the Altima's windshield. Additionally, custom wheels that each feature the centerpiece of a TIE Fighter wing, a full-body wrap and speakers at each corner that recreate the iconic TIE Fighter and blaster sounds, all help to bring the dual-winged spacecraft to life.
2018 Nissan Maxima – Kylo Ren
This show vehicle draws from the existing aggressive design of the Maxima to transform it into a truly “sinister sedan”. Using the Maxima’s V-motioned front design, the designers were able to merge this with a block of milled aluminum to create Kylo Ren's distinctive black and silver facemask. The custom front lower spoiler, impactful hood and body are all also coated with “exact character color-matching specifications.” As a final touch to help complete the look, a set of red signature headlights and underbody lighting were added and pulse at random – designed to mimic Kylo Ren's crossguard lightsaber.
2018 Nissan Maxima – Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer
The Nissan Maxima is engineered for speed and sharp handling capability, this makes it the perfect car to replicate Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer. As one of the new crafts to appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, this one-off TIE Silencer is fully designed to Kylo's specifications. The concept car comes equipped with laser cannons and missile launchers attached to the vehicle's distinct wings, which stretch the entire length of the car. Red lighting in the grille and underneath, along with sound effects, pulled directly from the movie, help to give this concept an “amazing true-to-life feel.”
2018 Nissan Maxima – Captain Phasma
Also joining the ranks of the First Order is this menacing Maxima, designed in the image of Captain Phasma, the strong female character in the film. The designers have covered the Maxima in high-gloss silver armor to help create the unmistakable mask. To further its intimidating look, a red accent line with ground effects runs the length of the car. The Captain Phasma Maxima was built as a celebration of female strength; and fitting in with this theme, “Nissan's Maxima team is led by a female engineer, the designer for this vehicle was a female from ILM, the vehicle's brand director is a female and the vehicle was created to celebrate one of the toughest female warriors in the galaxy.”
2018 Nissan Rogue – Poe Dameron's X-wing with BB-8
Leading the New Republic Starfleet is Poe Dameron's X-wing starfighter. Building on the dependable Nissan Rogue’s foundation, massive wings were fixed on to both sides of the vehicle. The T-70 X-wing also features a pair of illuminating thrusters, and quad laser cannons integrated into each wingtip, these help to make the craft appear ready for action. Sitting on top of the vehicle is a life-size BB-8 astromech droid, complete with functioning lights, motion and sound. To tie it all together, a rugged tire and wheel package is used to draw “parallels to the rugged valor of the Resistance.”
2018 Nissan Rogue Sport – A-wing
The A-wing is quick and nimble, which makes it a perfect fit for the Rogue Sport it is built on. Created to perfectly mimic the A-wing's design, the vehicle features top-mounted fins and illuminated dual thrusters at the rear. Its blue wheels are painted to match the craft's accents, while laser cannons at the side of the vehicle, along with a detailed wrap that display battle damage, prove that this is a vehicle ready for almost anything.
2018 Nissan TITAN AT-M6
What do you get when you pair the largest vehicle in the First Order's arsenal with the biggest vehicle (and the highest standard horsepower in its segment) in Nissan's fleet? A perfect match! Nissan fittingly created the AT-M6, from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, show car replica with a Nissan TITAN. Coincidentally, it also happened to be the biggest unveiling (in physical size) at this year's LA Auto Show. With features like a massive megacaliber cannon, fixed on its truck bed, and a custom body wrap, the show truck is definitely reminiscent of the film's massive First Order walker. Additionally, the wheels received hydro-dip graphics, intended to mimic a walker's leg joints, while a 1-foot lift kit was applied to promote its destructive appearance. As a final way to bring the vehicle to life, designers installed a sound system capable of mimicking the walker's ground-stomping movements; an 18-inch bed-mounted subwoofer with a companion surround sound system produces a "planet-thumping 5,000 watts”, this is said “to closely capture the reverberation of a First Order walker.”
