Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn unveils redesigned Maxima “4 Door Sports Car” in New York

NEW YORK - The New York International Auto show was the stage where Nissan unveiled the all-new Nissan Maxima. Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn introduced the Maxima before media and special guests of the auto show on April 2.
"Maxima is extremely important to the Nissan brand from a heritage point of view and a performance point of view. This is the flagship sedan for Nissan in the U.S. and we expect big things from this car in terms of sales and expanding the reach and impact of the Nissan brand in North America," said Carlos Ghosn, President and CEO, Nissan Motor Corporation. "Today, Maxima holds 10 percent of the share in the upper mid-size segment, but we are targeting more than that for what we feel will be the most exciting and modern car in the class."
The 2016 Maxima, created by driving enthusiasts for driving enthusiasts, looks like nothing else on the road today with styling that showcases Nissan's new design language.
"Starting with the V-Motion, going to the sides with the nice character lines, and the floating roof which is very iconic Nissan; this is the beginning of a new generation of sedans to be followed by Altima and Sentra," said Shiro Nakamura Senior Vice President, and Chief Creative Officer, Nissan Motor Corporation, Ltd.
There also is a new engine on this car, it's a 3.5-liter VQ-series V6 engine delivering 300 horsepower and an anticipated 15 percent increase in highway fuel economy to an EPA estimated 30 miles per gallon*.
"They are going to experience better acceleration. We forecasted that this will have class-leading acceleration. And they will experience better refinement over previous generations. So that translates to greater comfort, less fatigue, more performance," said Mike Drongowski, Chief Product Specialist "My mantra to all groups, to design, to styling, engineering, manufacturing, was 'Maxima exists to be special. That is its role in our lineup."
There are a number of safety, security and driving aids on the new Maxima, including Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Control, Forward Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Blind Spot Warning (BSW). Maxima also offers an available Driver Attention Alert (DAA) system**, which monitors steering input patterns to establish a baseline and helps alert the driver when drowsy or inattentive driving is detected.
In 2015, Nissan's U.S. line-up will include new versions of the Titan, Maxima, Altima and Sentra – which together represent nearly 50 percent of the Nissan brand showroom.
"Nissan ended its FY14 with record sales, the best year in Nissan's history. We are going to start April with great momentum," said Fred Diaz, Senior Vice President, Nissan Sales & Marketing and Operations U.S., Nissan North America, Inc. "With the new Maxima and new truck coming, and of course the Murano that just launched, we are primed to have a great 2015 and break many records this year as we did last year."
